We read of someone dying at the hands of someone with a gun, almost daily. It seems like guns are taking over our country. Let’s get real. It’s not the guns its the person holding the gun. It is sad to realize that many of the mass shootings over the last few years such as the The El Paso, Texas shooting, Dayton, Ohio, Las Vegas hotel music festival shooting, Pulse Night Club , Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Sutherland Baptist Church, and Columbine were often caused by mentally disturbed individuals.
We hear a lot of talk about gun control. Is that really the answer? I don’t think so. Evil people who want to get guns will get them whether they are legal or not. How much duplicity we see in our society today. If a car accident kills someone and the driver was drunk it was not the car that killed the individual but the drunk driver. If someone kills a pregnant woman carrying a baby they are charged with two murders. A baby is then a baby , but a fetus for an abortion. When an individual stabs someone it is the person not the knife. So why is it the gun not the individual in gun incidents blamed?
Some who advocated for gun control are surrounded by people protecting them with guns. Many of them even own guns themselves. They advocate for gun free zones such as schools, hospitals, banks, theaters to name a few. This is a red flag for those wanting to create havoc with a gun. They know exactly where to go to create the most damage. If getting rid of guns was the answer we would save a lot of tax dollars just by not having to pay for all of the body guards, and police men and women.
Let’s get real. Some cities such as Chicago have the worse gun violence, but have the strongest gun laws. Getting rid of guns is not the answer. Perhaps more good people with guns might be. Let’s think about this for a moment. Are you likely to start shooting in a mall of people, if you know many of them are carrying guns. Probably not, since you don’t know if the person behind you, or next to you can take you out in an instant, if you begin shooting. Part of the answer might be for more good law abiding, trained in gun use, citizens to carry a weapon. More than one shooting has been stopped by someone with a gun. Of course the media never wants to tell us about these incidents. They do not support the gun owners legislation, but the gun haters.
Believing the problem is not the guns but the people holding them. Society has lost much of the moral influences of the past generations many of whom were moral, God fearing, law abiding citizens. We are teaching our children that anything they do is okay, as long as it feels good to them. We are allowing violent video games, movies, and TV programs to influence their behavior. After seeing an actor killed on one show, and then acting on another one. Do our children really realize that shooting someone and killing them is permanent?
Perhaps getting more citizens who are mentally healthy, law abiding, and trained with gun use, could curve some of this violence. Let’s quit putting innocent people in danger by announcing gun free zones. The criminals and mentally deficient individuals do not need it announced where they can kill with no opposition. A society with no guns for average people is vulnerable not only to its own government, but to other foreign governments that do not have our interests at heart. Let’s be reasonable in what we expect in our gun laws. Gun laws are only bad if taken to the extreme.
